The Age of Adaline

This is the second of two really thought provoking movies I have seen in the past month.  (I will blog again soon about Interstellar, which is even more mind blowing!)

I have always thought that life is much too short.  So short, that I sometimes think that somebody should find some way for us all to cheat death so that we would be able to live forever.  Imagine all the things we could do with that extra time.  We could conquer languages, invent things, cure cancer(oh wait we wouldn't have to), read more books, have more time with loved ones.  There are so many things we could do.

But what if that extra time wouldn't be a blessing but a curse.  That is how I felt the main character in this movie must feel.  See, if you are the only one that is immortal, you keep losing loved ones.  She often feels alone, which I would imagine would turn into great depression.

This movie changed my mind about being immortal as I followed this woman through her history, of finding love multiple times only to not have a real future with that soulmate and not be able to grow old together and of having her daughter be physically older than her.  It was heartbreaking to witness that weird phenomenon that would happen if you never aged or died.

This movie is a great one and it was nice to have a little break from reality as my wonderful babysitters allowed me to do.  I have lots less opportunities to see movies these days as the mother of a rockstar toddler!

Into the Woods

Going to this movie truly was an "Escape to the movies!"  It was a perfect way to spend my day off today.

My friend who stayed with my wee one so the hubby and I could have our Valentine's Date,  texted when I told her this was the movie we picked: "Isn't that the musical movie?"  Like we would be turned of by that or something.  I guess being the sports fan-tom-boy type, she thought it might not be my kind of movie.

Well, I actually like musicals and this movie made the transition from Broadway to film seamless.  I loved it.

The whole premise is that we take four fairy tales and mesh them together with a new twist.  You have Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella and Rapunzel all in one place.  They all come together because of a cursed couple who only wants a baby.  They turn to their witch neighbor to reverse a spell and that is what brings you to all these stories.  They must find the red hood, hair the color of corn, a white cow, and a golden shoe.  Seriously, Into the Woods is a brilliant story.

You sometimes forget how most Hollywood people can actually sing.  Meryl Streep was amazing, she can sing, but seriously, she is an amazing actor who makes all her parts believeable.  Chris Pine is a pretty boy who does action movies, but seriously, he sings too?  Oh and Jonny Depp, what is up with him? He always gets the creepy parts, but in this movie does amazingly at the creepiness and with the singing too.

See this film, even if you don't think that musicals are your thing.  Maybe you will find something new and exciting about yourself, that maybe you are that musical type too!

Ironman 3

Sometimes the third movie in a trilogy is not so great. This is not the case for Ironman 3. I have done a lot of falling asleep in movies lately because they just seem too long for this pregnant girl, but that was not the case with Ironman 3. I actually was alert the whole time and really into the movie. I also wondered where the time had gone once the credits hit the screen.

I love the Marvel movies. They are just action packed and all around fun. Ironman 3 stays true to this scenario. (And seriously, the whole Where in the World is Stan Lee? to be played during is just highly entertaining!)

I asked Reuben after watching how much he thought the special effects for the movie probably cost and he said: "lots." I do believe we have a winner. It would have cost a lot to have so many things blow up and have so many ironman suits fly through the air. (The list of people who worked on the computer animation bits was mega long in the credits.)

Ironman is struggling with being okay to save the world because of the post traumatic stress symptoms he is facing. It is fun to see somebody who is supposed to be so very strong, be vulnerable. He can't sleep at night so he tinkers. This causes him to be a little off and his relationships are a little off because of it as well.

The terrorist that is blowing up the place is the right kind of villain for somebody suffering from PTSD. And to see Ironman bounce back and kick butt is highly entertaining.

Oh and to see Gwyneth Paltrow become a strong fighting back type is just plain awesome.

You must get out and see the Superhero and his sidekicks at work. I give it 42 Ironman Suits!

Everyone that knows me, knows that I love baseball. Everybody who knows me well, knows I love the Dodgers! So, going into this movie about an amazing hero in Baseball who played for the Brooklyn Dodgers back in 1947, all of you should know that I would love this movie.

Baseball, like many sports, holds a lot of history and has the potential to teach us about life. The lessons we learn from sports aren't just based on a silly game, because sometimes sports are just a game, afterall. Sometimes we are able to learn how to treat one another and how we can be heroes and 42 teaches us that.

This movie was amazing. The lesson is huge and moving. Before Jackie Robinson joined the Dodgers, He played for the Monarchs, which was a team in the Negro League. Not only did we segregate peeople in bathrooms, schools and buses, but we also segregated on the playing field. There were no African Americans playing in major legue baseball before 1947 and before Jackie Robinson.

The bravery that was needed to step across that racial barrier and play for the Dodgers was huge and Jackie Robinson was very brave. The man who hired him and thought it was time to integrate baseball also was brave and a visonary. Thank heavens these men took that first step.

This movie is powerful and from what I read very accurate in historical detail, although some of it is a little exaggerated as ofen is the case in Hollywood.

This movie is definitely worth your money and time and who knows you might even have your heart lifted and touched.

The Vow

See this movie. It was fabulous. A love story with complications and humor on the side.

It is about a couple who have been happily married for five years. They get into a car crash and she loses her memory of the past five years. Basically, the husband must regain his wife's love.

I give it ten kisses. See it; you won't regret it. Both Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum give great performances. I think he is way cute btw. Makes it so much easier to watch. McAdams has always awed me with her skills. Her characters are alway believable and real. Treat yourself. Really!

Movies Galore

Who watches a lot of movies, but never posts about them? Yep, me! I will write about a few of them that I have watched recently. Hopefully, I will be better in the future at keeping a log of the flicks I watch.

The Muppets rocked. I brought me back to my childhood and when I was in love with The Muppet Show. I loved the music and I adored the acting. This movie is made to be watched with the whole family, so do it. It was also cool because it was the first movie I saw with Rueben. He is nice! :)

Moneyball was a great movie. For me, sports always make for a great movie. This movie tackles the problems with big teams in sports and all the money they have and how it makes the small teams with no money suffer. It was awesome to see how Pitt's character found ways to make a team with no money successful. It receives five golden baseballs. Go team!

I don't know what I was expecting from this movie seeing it has Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller in it. I thought it would be funny but it was more laugh at the joke and then feel guilty because it was dirty humor, humor. Not my favorite. It is action packed and funny but be warned, if you have any standards for language and sexually charged language. I would throw tomatoes at it, if I had any to throw.

In Time was a pretty good movie. Very much a sci-fi thriller that is action packed. I am very impressed with Justin Timberlake as an actor. I think he is top notch(and very good looking! :) Having life time left as a commodity was very cleaver, if not politically symbolic. Basically, this flick had a Robin Hood theme without actually coming out and saying it. Those with more life on their watch, were rich. The whole premise was stealing from the rich to give to the poor. I am not a fan of socialism, but I get the message and liked the movie. I give it 100 years.

To Save a Life is brilliant. Watch it. The message is all about what you can do to live better and help those around you. It really was a feel good movie and I highly enjoyed it. It even got me emotional and it is fun to get some tears out during feel good movies on occasion. I give it a thousand saved lives!
