Into the Woods

Going to this movie truly was an "Escape to the movies!"  It was a perfect way to spend my day off today.

My friend who stayed with my wee one so the hubby and I could have our Valentine's Date,  texted when I told her this was the movie we picked: "Isn't that the musical movie?"  Like we would be turned of by that or something.  I guess being the sports fan-tom-boy type, she thought it might not be my kind of movie.

Well, I actually like musicals and this movie made the transition from Broadway to film seamless.  I loved it.

The whole premise is that we take four fairy tales and mesh them together with a new twist.  You have Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella and Rapunzel all in one place.  They all come together because of a cursed couple who only wants a baby.  They turn to their witch neighbor to reverse a spell and that is what brings you to all these stories.  They must find the red hood, hair the color of corn, a white cow, and a golden shoe.  Seriously, Into the Woods is a brilliant story.

You sometimes forget how most Hollywood people can actually sing.  Meryl Streep was amazing, she can sing, but seriously, she is an amazing actor who makes all her parts believeable.  Chris Pine is a pretty boy who does action movies, but seriously, he sings too?  Oh and Jonny Depp, what is up with him? He always gets the creepy parts, but in this movie does amazingly at the creepiness and with the singing too.

See this film, even if you don't think that musicals are your thing.  Maybe you will find something new and exciting about yourself, that maybe you are that musical type too!
