The Age of Adaline

This is the second of two really thought provoking movies I have seen in the past month.  (I will blog again soon about Interstellar, which is even more mind blowing!)

I have always thought that life is much too short.  So short, that I sometimes think that somebody should find some way for us all to cheat death so that we would be able to live forever.  Imagine all the things we could do with that extra time.  We could conquer languages, invent things, cure cancer(oh wait we wouldn't have to), read more books, have more time with loved ones.  There are so many things we could do.

But what if that extra time wouldn't be a blessing but a curse.  That is how I felt the main character in this movie must feel.  See, if you are the only one that is immortal, you keep losing loved ones.  She often feels alone, which I would imagine would turn into great depression.

This movie changed my mind about being immortal as I followed this woman through her history, of finding love multiple times only to not have a real future with that soulmate and not be able to grow old together and of having her daughter be physically older than her.  It was heartbreaking to witness that weird phenomenon that would happen if you never aged or died.

This movie is a great one and it was nice to have a little break from reality as my wonderful babysitters allowed me to do.  I have lots less opportunities to see movies these days as the mother of a rockstar toddler!

Into the Woods

Going to this movie truly was an "Escape to the movies!"  It was a perfect way to spend my day off today.

My friend who stayed with my wee one so the hubby and I could have our Valentine's Date,  texted when I told her this was the movie we picked: "Isn't that the musical movie?"  Like we would be turned of by that or something.  I guess being the sports fan-tom-boy type, she thought it might not be my kind of movie.

Well, I actually like musicals and this movie made the transition from Broadway to film seamless.  I loved it.

The whole premise is that we take four fairy tales and mesh them together with a new twist.  You have Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella and Rapunzel all in one place.  They all come together because of a cursed couple who only wants a baby.  They turn to their witch neighbor to reverse a spell and that is what brings you to all these stories.  They must find the red hood, hair the color of corn, a white cow, and a golden shoe.  Seriously, Into the Woods is a brilliant story.

You sometimes forget how most Hollywood people can actually sing.  Meryl Streep was amazing, she can sing, but seriously, she is an amazing actor who makes all her parts believeable.  Chris Pine is a pretty boy who does action movies, but seriously, he sings too?  Oh and Jonny Depp, what is up with him? He always gets the creepy parts, but in this movie does amazingly at the creepiness and with the singing too.

See this film, even if you don't think that musicals are your thing.  Maybe you will find something new and exciting about yourself, that maybe you are that musical type too!
